Hot oil ... the ugly
I just finished dressing the burn on my hand caused by the splashing of hot oil during one of my intermittent forays into the cooking world. My palm has 4-5 little blister bubbles forming ... honestly, I'm very tempted to poke them with a sterilized needle but the skin is still a little hard and would inadvertently do more damage than good. Dang. The skin around my knuckles and little finger are now sporting some splotches of red. There goes my fair skin. Luckily not blistering though. Just a dull pinkish red colour.
Of course, it did hurt like hell when the hot oil splashed but I did learn some useful things and am trying to list down some more mental notes for future use:
Of course that only lasts upto the moment you have done what is required to dress your burn ... after that, be prepared for a good lecture ... I suggest not cleaning your ears too often ... hehe ... or having low batteries to minimize said lecture :-)
Of course, it did hurt like hell when the hot oil splashed but I did learn some useful things and am trying to list down some more mental notes for future use:
- Try to cover up as much as possible when attempting to deep-fry something - I'm contemplating getting myself some sort of full ppe complete with visor like the full-faced helmet that motorcyclist use ;p
- Try to ensure the food to be deep fried is as dry as manageably possible and also the parts of your body going anywhere near the oil is dry too - not a good idea to wash something right before you start frying; unfortunately learnt that lesson too late
- Toothpaste especially the minty kind is not only good for your breath but also for relieving burns - oh, man! felt like my skin was boiling from the inside before that
- Mental note to self is to always remember to have ice-cubes handy - had to make do with cooling under running water ... took a long time to ease the burn ... still felt like boiling from within though
Of course that only lasts upto the moment you have done what is required to dress your burn ... after that, be prepared for a good lecture ... I suggest not cleaning your ears too often ... hehe ... or having low batteries to minimize said lecture :-)
